Village - Camping Village La Gardiola

Camping Village La Gardiola overlooks Gulf of Manerba on the shores of Lake Garda, in a particularly paceful position. It covers a grassy, terraced landscape, just one kilometre from the center of San Felice del benaco and 2,5 km from the center of Manerba. Lake Garda is a perfect place for anybody who likes nature and outdoor activities. The hills of the west coast between Desenzano and Salò, offer remarkable examples of flora and make this charming landscape one of the main tourist attractions. Guided tours are organised in the nature reserve Rocca di Manerba and other areas throughout the whole year. There is a great number of paths ideal for riding a bicycle or a horse. The mild climate of the lake encourages the cultivation of olives and grapes. That enables the production of renowned wines such as Rosso, Rosso Superiore, Bianco, Chiaretto, and Groppello. The usage of oil mills enables the production of rich oil, which is a perfect condiment for light and tasty dishes such as maize porridge, lake fish, and different kind of soup. Due to the Mediterranean vegetation of the lake, the beautiful villas placed on the hills are surrounded by numerous citrus orchards, high cypresses, and palm trees. The great historical heritage includes archaeological finds from the Bronze Age discovered in the lake in the southwest area. The term “Benaco” that was used to describe the Lake in the past, comes from the Etrurian culture and it means “Beni-Aco”, the sons of Aco who was a mythological prince of Etruria. The southwest area of the lake is called “Valtenesi”. Its name, “Valle degli Ateniesi”, indicates the rule of the Greeks in this territory. The evidence of the Roman settling in this area is the Catullus’ caves in Sirmione and the majestic villa in Desenzano. Other art treasures are Pala del Tiepolo, an altarpiece in the Desenzano Cathedral; Pieve di Santa Maria Assunta, a parish church in Manerba; and a number of medieval castles located mainly in Valtenesi.
